Question:

When installing a multi-outlet lighting control unit should you test just to the incoming connection on the LCM or at the end of the wiring which is plugged into the LCM. The leads which plug into the LCM are pre-wired by the manufactures and factory tested.

Regulation 641.1 requires all installations to be inspected and tested during each phase of construction and before being put into service however, the requirement relates generally to the fixed wiring for the installation.

Where the installation includes items of equipment manufactured to a product standard that is effectively plugged into parts of the installation we recommend the relevant tests and inspections are carried out up to the point of connection of that equipment, for example, the socket-outlet or Fused connection unit where the equipment is connected.
