Former Newey & Eyre managing director and a well-known figure within the electrical wholesaling industry, Gordon Yardley, has died aged 74:

Rapid expansion:
Well known and respected within Newey & Eyre, Gordon was responsible for evolving a completely new management structure. During Gordon's reign, the business expanded rapidly and an export division together with a specialised offshore oil operation were also set up. In addition, Gordon was instrumental in establishing a significant presence in the US through the purchase of companies in the southern Sun Belt. Long after his retirement, the decision was taken to name Newey & Eyre's Head Office, Yardley Court, as a tribute to his many years of dedicated service.
Gordon Yardley believed in the value of trade associations. He was a member of the Council of the Electrical Wholesalers Federation (EWF) for many years, serving as Treasurer and in 1968, as President. He was the EWF's delegate to the European Union of Electrical Wholesalers (EUEW) and was President of EUEW from 1981 to 1983.
Robert Elsmore, a former director of Newey & Eyre, who worked with Gordon for 35 years said: "Gordon was held in the highest regard among suppliers, customers and chief executives alike. He was the most able, dynamic and enthusiastic businessman I had ever met. The loss of Gordon is that of an inspirational leader, wise counsellor and very good friend both in and outside of business."
Mr Yardley passed away at the Priory Hospital in Edgbaston on December 12th 2005.
