The caution provided by the ECA in its ‘Guide to Cables Concealed in a Wall or Partition’ – on the topic of fault current damage - is amplified and extended here:

Many electrical contractors and even specifiers and designers, select a cable on a current rating / voltage drop basis. Often, for simple or ‘standard’ designs no consideration is given to thermal protection under fault condition. This is allowed under Regulation 434-03-02, which states that a cable selected against the protective device is automatically protected from damage by the fault current.
