In addition to being much more robust than cardboard reels, the plastic reels have been designed specifically to work in conjunction with the N'roll. The dispenser is easily portable, so as well as being handy in the van, it is ideal for use on site. Moreover, if more than one reel of cable is being used, the N'roll dispensers can be clipped together side by side. The rollers are also adjustable allowing N'roll to take larger sizes of cable.
There is another advantage compared with cardboard reels, as the N'roll dispenser and plastic reels can be left out in all weathers without danger of disintegrating.

Easy Reel cable reel system
Prysmian's novel design of cable reel makes using wire or cables much easier:
Most electrical contractors will have experienced problems at one time or another when using wire or cables stored on traditional reels. With reels, there's always the need for a pole or bar (often, in reality, a broom handle or suchlike) to hang the reels on for ease of use, and often the wire is prone to snagging as it is unfurled. This is an often a clumsy and irritating way of getting the job done and has been a bugbear for electrical contractors and installers for years.
Prysmian's novel design of cable reel makes it all much easier, says the company. Called Easy Reel, with this design, the cable or wire is not put onto a reel but held in place within a box and is pulled easily through a hole in the top of the box (rather like a giant box of tissues). It is simple and quick to use and dispenses easily with no complications. In addition, the boxes can be stacked, making storage, carriage and multiple cable installation easier.
As the packaging is simply a cardboard box, Easy Reel is kinder to the environment, creates less waste and can be recycled much more easily than traditional reels. In addition, a viewing in the side of the box lets the user know exactly how cable or wire they have left.
No more snagging and tangling:
One of the most common complaints from electrical contractors and installers regarding wire and cable reels was the constant snagging and tangling during installation. Easy Reel was developed to avoid this, make storage easier and create less waste. The system was well received during trials with contractors who reported that using the system would save them time, money and eradicate the need for a second person standing by the reels untangling the cable or wire.

GRP cable handling hook improves safety
The following product is not a cable drum or reel, but a related electrical cable handing product that makes life easier for electrical contractors, as well as improving safety:
Westmark BV is an industrial trading company specialising in the manufacture and supply of Cablesafe safety devices to the electrical power markets, among many others. The company has developed a very simple device that significantly improves the safety of personnel and equipment on the work floor through safe housekeeping.
Westmark's Cablesafe product is an 'S' shaped hook made of glass reinforced polyester (GRP). The hook was originally designed for the offshore industry specifically for the suspension of utility cables used during construction and industrial maintenance work. Major companies, such as Dow, Exxon, Shell, ICI and Arco, use Cablesafe safety hooks to fulfil their safety requirements in the workplace.
Safety hooks for safe cable handling:
The advantages of using the Cablesafe hook are many, but for the electrical industry, its use leads to a clean and well-organised work floor, which improves operational safety and turnaround management. It also offers better protection, and therefore extended lifetime for all kinds of electrical cables.
According to the National Dutch Bureau for Statistics, 21% of industrial accidents are caused as a result of falls caused by tripping. Effective use of Cablesafe safety hooks completely removes, it is claimed, the occurrence of hazardous working conditions caused by cables lying on floors and reduces the chance of them getting damaged.
These safety hooks are also available in a phosphoric version that will glow in the dark. In the event of an electrical power shut down the hooks work as an orientation for an escape route in otherwise dark spaces.
Cablesafe safety hooks are available in three sizes (6in, 9in and 12in) and can carry loads of up to 190kg. The safety hooks are fire retardant, non-conductive and have a very high UV resistance which ensures a long service lifetime. A hole in each end of the hook enables the user to secure and fix the safety hook itself by means of a tie rap; the same can be done with a whole bundle of cables. The hook can be produced, at customer request, in specified colours and with a contractor's name or logo on it.
