Question: When installing a plate switch outside Zone 2 in a bathroom, could you please say where the Zone 2 above a hand wash basin is mentioned in the Wiring Regulations?

I have never found a reference to this in any BS7671 (16th or 17th Edition), or in the pocket guides. The regulations in Section 701 only state 'locations containing a bath or shower'.

Answer: Please consider the following. A hand basin is not an item that needs to be considered under special locations under Part P of the Building Regulations.

However, for a switch plate located outside Zone 2, consideration should be given to Regulation 512.2.1, which mentions equipment being appropriate for its location. Also consider 512.2.2.
