Q & A of the Day - If extending a lighting circuit, do I need to fit an RCD?
Question: If extending an existing lighting circuit with two additional lighting points, both with their own switch less than 50mm from the surface, do I have to install an RCD or RCBO at the origin of the circuit. This could become very costly if the consumer unit is of the re-wirable fuse type.

Answer: Yes - the new switch drops require the additional RCD protection.
