Q & A of the Day - Are PVC cables still damaged by contact with expanded polystyrene?
Question: Are PVC cables manufactured today still adversely affected when in contact with expanded polystyrene, which can cause the plasticiser to migrate leaving the cables brittle?

Also, do LSHF PVC cables suffer from the same problem?

Answer: Today's PVC cables will still degrade when in contact with expanded polystyrene insulation.

Zero halogen cables, such as Draka's Saffire OHLS wiring cables, do not react with polystyrene, but current ratings should be reduced as per BS7671:2008 Regulation 523.7.
