Crabtree release video designed for electrical contractors who install MCCB Panelboards

Published: 25 May 2013 Category: News

This short video will show how meeting the needs of a modern power distribution & monitoring system is made easier with Crabtree Powerstar Panelboards

This MCCB Panelboard video is instructional and informative - it gives an overview of the range and the features and benefits for the installer; and  shows how installers can easily assemble for themselves on site the equivalent of a bespoke factory built assembly complete with incoming and outgoing metering and integral surge protection.

Features of the Powerstar Panelboard System include:

• Two frame sizes Powerstar 125 & Powerstar 250
• Three Bus-bar ratings 250A 400A & 630A
• Panel Boards from 2 to 18TP outgoing ways
• Integral incoming metering facility (no extension boxes required)
• Integral Surge/Lightning protection facility (no extension boxes required)
• Incomers up to 630A with adjustable settings
• TP & 4P incomers
• Direct incoming connection option
• Outgoing G Frame 25kA MCBs to 125A SP & TP
• Outgoing J Frame devices to 65kA ratings up to 250A with adjustable thermal and magnetic settings
• Unique facility to add extra outgoing ways to J frame panel boards
• Option to mix G frame and J Frame MCCBs in single enclosures
• Over 100 panel board combinations
• Outgoing metering enclosures
• Outgoing meter kits with pre wired cable looms

These new panelboards are available in two basic frame sizes, Powerstar 125 and Powerstar 250. For each frame size there is a dedicated range of MCCBs plus incoming and outgoing metering, providing the basic elements required to cater for most power installations.

The major advantage of the Crabtree Powerstar panelboard system over its competition is the fact that J and G MCCB formations can be mixed and configured on site into bespoke assemblies. This is unlike other brands where the panel-boards are supplied to the market in pre-configured split-load type arrangements (e.g. with either 4J & 4G out-goers), limiting on site flexibility and often forcing installers to use the most expensive devices. With Crabtree, however, the designer or installer can create the most electrically and economically appropriate system for any installation, with panelboards quickly and easily assembled to match the on site requirements much more closely and make the most of any opportunities for economy without compromising electrical performance.

To each Powerstar 250 unit the installer can add up to 12 TP outgoing MCCBs by using extension units that incorporate 4, 8, or 12 additional TP ways for G or J (max +8) outgoing devices.   With this flexibility, it is possible to mix and match busbar systems and outgoing devices into customised assemblies with the right number of outgoing ways and the most appropriate mix of devices for each installation.

The Powerstar 125 system includes panelboards from 6 to 16 TP outgoing ways, Outgoing MCCBs range from 15A to 125A in either single or triple pole 25kA devices. All Powerstar panel -boards are supplied complete with the skeleton incomer unit (250A, 400A & 630A) to which the installer simply adds a Switch module or Electronic MCCB module.

Crabtree panelboards are designed and manufactured in the UK to BSEN 61439-2 2009, and are fully ROHS compliant.  Standard assemblies are Form 3b type 2, supplied complete with skeleton incoming unit (excludes trip unit or switch unit) a range of add on enclosures is available for personalising bespoke assemblies, integral incomer metering options are included within the main assembly. To complete the range for each size of panel-board there is a matching suite of cable ways and metering enclosures, metering kits complete with pre-wired connection looms, lightning and surge arrestor kits, and a range of accessories.

From a few standard off-the-shelf Powerstar products competent installers can create many different panelboard configurations, a great advantage when compared with the other brands that offer just half a dozen off-the-shelf products. Similarly the choice of outgoing devices also provides the installer/designer with an opportunity to make the most economically and electrically appropriate selection of protective devices. Similarly the J frame devices incorporate a wide range of adjustable settings with several increments, each as low as 3A, to give on site adjustments for close circuit protection.
