12-10-2004 New battery master switch meets ADR 2003 requirements

E-T-A Circuit Breakers' new battery master switches will also satisfy the additional requirements of UK operators. The BMS01 Battery Master Switch series provides both single pole and double pole switching options for chassis and insulated return systems. The master switches, designed for installation as close as possible to the vehicle's batteries are operated ON/OFF by means of a control switch in the driver's cab. Any number of additional operating switches can be sited elsewhere on the vehicle as required.

Highly sealed to IP69 (k):

The housings of the BMS01 series are sealed to IP69 (k), significantly in excess of the IP65 minimum sealing requirement specified in the ADR2003 regulations, with which all new build hazardous goods vehicles in Europe must now comply. Upon disconnection of one of the control switches, the main contacts of the BMS01 will open after a short preset delay to allow for the controlled shut down of computerised engine management systems. During this delay period an additional set of contacts provides an output for an audible alarm. Further contacts are fitted for alternator field disconnection and there is a permanently energised protected output for the tachograph supply.

Undervoltage monitoring is a unique optional feature of the E-T-A BMS01 series. Whilst the vehicle is idle, the battery switch will disconnect the battery from the electrical system in the event of a fall in voltage to 22.8V. This will not only protect the battery from the effects of deep discharge but will ensure there is sufficient battery capacity available for re-starting. An integral LED provides full status indication of the switch.

E-T-A is able to supply suitable control switches for the BMS01, protected against inadvertent operation. An externally mounted switch assembly is also available incorporating the green 'ON' status indicators mandatory in the UK.

For emergency shutdown too:

The BMS01 switch will serve as an emergency shut down switch as well as disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicle's electrical system during loading and unloading. The permanently energised control circuit of the BMS01 is approved to IEC60079-11. IP54 rated covers are supplied for protection of the external M10 main stud terminals while other connections are by plug-in DIN style connectors, also supplied.
