DEVELOPING THE LIGHTING COMMUNITY FOR A BRIGHT AND EXCITING FUTURE
WELCOME TO THE LIGHTING INDUSTRY ACADEMY The Academy is a professional learning institution committed to fulfilling the needs of educating the lighting community. It brings together specialist lighting courses run by the LIA as well as other leading lighting organisations. Our courses are delivered by highly skilled, professional trainers with many years of experience. The Academy was created in response to a need identified by the LIA to bring together the learning expertise of the industry’s leading organisations and manufacturers. It will lead the way in creating clear paths of professional development for everyone working within the industry and wider lighting community. The Academy provides class-based learning at a new dedicated campus in Telford as well as a variety of other locations throughout the UK. Additionally, courses based in Telford will be enriched by the new LIA Laboratory, a purpose built facility equipped with state-of- the-art equipment which will give learners the opportunity to see first hand the latest in testing equipment. SUPPORTING THE LIGHTING COMMUNITY Lighting continues to rapidly evolve with exciting changes and innovations in technology. The education and development of people with the right skills will be central to a growing community of lighting professionals. Academy AmbassadorsAcademy Ambassadors are the champions of the Lighting Industry Academy with leading names from the world of lighting. This includes individuals and organisations that work in lighting design, manufacture, retail, education, government and media and have major influence on the way that we access and understand lighting today, and tomorrow.Ambassadors feature prominently within the Academy, and also on literature and at Academy promotional events. Academy AssociatesAs it develops into the hub of learning the Academy must be steered by the lighting community. Key organisations and individuals will be invited to become Academy Associates to form the steering group and bring experience and insight to the ongoing development of the Academy. This group will establish, shape, support, enrich and further develop high quality learning and education activities. The Lighting Industry Academy offers the power of understanding and education to enable all sections of the lighting community to exploit the potential of these exciting developments. This spans the breadth of the lighting community, from manufacturers and designers, through retail, distribution and installation, and including end beneficiaries such as facilities and energy managers. Through its collaborative model, the Academy provides the lighting community the opportunity to work together towards a bright and exciting future. THE HOME OF LEARNING FOR THE LIGHTING COMMUNITY The Lighting Industry Association has created the Academy to bring together providers, manufactures, academic institutions and other leading organisation to provide learning for the lighting community. Academy Recognised Partners To provide the breadth of learning the lighting community needs, the Academy operates as a hub, offering courses by the LIA, Associates and Recognised Partners. Providers can apply to become Academy Recognised Partners to offer courses through the Academy, and use Academy branding in the marketing of their programmes.Academy Recognised Partners will be required to offer the consistent, high-quality learning, that meets the needs of the learner and the lighting community. Please go to www.thelia.org.uk/academy-recognised Academy Recognised ProgrammesAll lighting industry specific or related training courses will go through a quality assurance mechanism before it can be offered through the academy. This will involve recognition of the specific learning programme (including delivery methodology and course materials), for which there may be a charge to cover the costs of the activity. How to apply a knowledge of light sources to complete the design of an installation to modern standards. Lighting Software Lighting Design Software is widely used by the industry, with courses to suit various levels of experience, incorporating information on latest changes to software. Standards and LegislationCovering the range of standards and legislation that impact the lighting community and providing the necessary updates and changes. Emergency Lighting Understanding the specific background, requirements and legislation for the installation of Emergency Lighting. Supported by ICEL, the Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting. Energy Efficient LightingSkills and understanding of the opportunities presented by new energy efficient lighting and controls technology.
Learning togetherA range of opportunities for the lighting community to learn together the more generic topics such as Project Management and personal development. Retail and DistributionInformation and understanding for the supply chain, to ensure lighting products are used at their optimum performance.
