Lumicom, the UK’s leading not-for-profit WEEE Compliance Scheme, offers advice on WEEE compliance and is the largest recycler of lamps and luminaires. We support the industry by creating and promoting high quality training and industry-focused communication, which in turn stimulates demand for lighting technology and quality products. The Lighting Industry Association’s Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL) specialises in providing support to LIA Members and the Emergency Lighting market. What does ICEL do? ICEL promotes emergency lighting legislation and standards. In the UK, ICEL experts represent the lighting industry on BSI product and application standards committees. We work with Government consultative groups and with safety organisa-tions such as the Fire Industry Association. Our experts contribute to the development of new safety standards and the amendment of existing ones. Besides the standards that emergency lighting products should comply with ICEL operates industry respected registrations schemes: • ICEL 1001: Product and Authenticated Photometric Data Registration • ICEL 1004: Requirements for the Re-Engineering of Luminaires • ICEL 1009: Emergency Lighting Central Power Supply Systems • ICEL 1010: Registration of Battery Cell(s) and Batteries These schemes identify the Bench Mark requirements for the emergency lighting industry. In today’s competitive market the industry is faced with a wide choice of lighting product offers. A key aspect when making a buying decision is often price. So if you have a choice of products which offer a good price with more or less the same performance claims, it is often the lower cost option which buyers choose. But how can you be certain that the claimed specification of a product is true and realistic? Investigations might find that the cheaper alternative may not have been safety compliant or that it falls short of its supposedly equivalent performance specification. The reliability of some cheaper products can be questionable. Fair competition is one thing, losing out to rogue products is quite another. Additionally poor performing product, particularly in relation to new technologies, can damage both the professional and consumer market place removing any incentives for responsible manufactures to invest time and effort into making better quality products. Clearly something must be done. LIA Laboratories Verified Certification This certification scheme independently measures and verifies the safety and performance of lighting products, lamps, modules and luminaire fixtures against the manufacturer’s performance claims. The scheme firstly verifies basic safety then initial “performance verification” of manufacturer’s specifications and packaging claims and then “life” verification to 2,000 hours. The LIA Laboratory’s Verified Certification Mark and test data are also listed on the dedicated certification website for all to view. The Verified Scheme will help you to gain a competitive edge by giving your customers the confidence to buy your products. A not-for-profit company set up by the LIA, it provides impartial, accurate and expert advice for both household and non-household lighting producers. Lumicom helps you gain and maintain WEEE compliance through: Lighting Specific Compliance Scheme We understand the unique challenges faced by the industry and have regular contact with the HSE and Defra. LUMICOM - THE WEEE COMPLIANCE SCHEME FOR ALL LIGHTING. The Lighting Industry Association offers Members an industry specific Quality Assurance Solution. The LIAQA scheme addresses legislative and regulatory requirements specific to the lighting industry. The scheme is designed to operate as a robust standalone Quality solution, or in conjunction with ISO 9001. LIAQA uses a modular approach to Quality Assurance. Each module is focused on ‘product type’ specific requirements. The scheme aim is to ensure that suppliers of lighting and lighting related products have a system in place that fully addresses product compliance. LIAQA identifies the criteria for product acceptance, manufacturing process requirements and the evidence that supports product conformity. All modules cover the standardised requirements, where applicable, for: • Safety (LVD, GPSD) • EMC • ERP (EcoDesign) • Energy labelling • Chemicals (RoHS, REACH) • Waste (WEEE) LIAQA is not a product certification scheme but it fully supports Members who may also use the LIA Laboratory Verified scheme.
