Question: Having just completed my 17th Edition (BS7671 2008) update, I have now become aware of the need for RCD protection for pretty much all domestic cabling systems. My question is, however, does this also apply to cabling systems in industrial installations (mainly SY cables installed on tray in a non-supervised installation supplying pumping equipment.
Answer: Circuits in commercial or industrial installations, other than those supplying socket-outlets for general use without the supervision of a skilled or instructed person, will generally not require RCD protection.
