Q & A of the Day – Will this bathroom/kitchen extractor fan installation comply?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: I want to fit extractor fans in bathroom and kitchen and need to check whether compliance is achieved by wiring up each circuit to its own 3A MCB and run feed through a standard three-pole isolator in both cases?

Also, when fitting a new extractor fan (not a replacement) in a bathroom, taking power from existing lighting circuit, does the fan have to be RCD protected - if the bathroom circuit is not?

Answer: The bathroom fan would need to be RCD protected, but the rest of the installation sounds fine.

For the answer to your second question, yes it would have to be RCD protected, in line with BS7671 2008 (2011).
