Q & A of the Day - Should the RCD protection be placed at mains or CU positions?
Question: In order to run an SWA cable to feed a distribution board in a new build outhouse, fed from the domestic dwelling, would RCD protection be best positioned at the mains position, or at the consumer unit?

Note that the new build circuits will only be one lighting and ring circuit.

Answer: If you are using an SWA cable for the submain to the new consumer unit, then the RCD would be best placed at the new consumer unit end.
