Question: Regulation 559.10.3.4 uses the wording 'Earthing Conductor'. As you know, Definitions in BS7671 states the meaning of 'Earthing Conductor'. With respect to Regulation 559.10.3.4 and street lighting, why is the wording 'Earthing Conductor' used? Should this not read: 'Circuit Protective Conductor' (CPC)?
Answer: The Regulation is referring to the sizing of the protective conductor from the main earthing terminal to the means of earthing, where the load has its own distributor's service head. The CPC would be as part of any final circuit (or distribution circuit) and be sized in accordance with 543.1.1.
