The forthcoming harmonization of core colours for fixed wiring cables requires that all associated British Standards and Wiring Regulations are amended to cover these changes.
To reflect these changes and to minimise confusion, the reference codes commonly used in the electrical industry to identify products, will be amended including the letter H. The main changes are outlined below:

All cables with the new core colours will be clearly labelled with the new CMA references (e.g. 6242YH). There will also be a warning note on all packaging advising that the contents has harmonised core colours. Cables will also be marked with a new legend incorporating an H before the year of manufacture (e.g. H2004).
Cables with new core colours will be available for sale from 1st April 2004 onwards.
