Q & A of the Day - What are the correct emergency lighting legends to use, as there is confusion here?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: A customer has been querying the pictogram legends supplied by emergency lighting manufacturers, saying that they should display 'the man in the door' pictogram. Can you please advise me about what the latest directive is for emergency lighting legends?

Please note that I've rung three suppliers and they all say that they conform to European legislation (i.e. blank door-arrow and a man running). Is there only one version to conform to? If not, what are the circumstances that one would need to use a different version?

Please note also that our client's customer obtained this information from the UCL fire & technical website (www.ucl.ac.uk/estates/maintenance/fire/documents) - Ref note 091.

Can you please advise?

Answer: The three suppliers that you contacted are correct.

Also, you can check what is stated in BS 5266 on the matter.
