How EarthNuts work:
Being an internally fitted component, the EarthNut and associated earth cables are not exposed to harsh or hazardous environments, nor are the connections susceptible to mechanical damage. In fact the connection is still 100% effective even if the cable gland is torn from the enclosure. No ATEX approval is necessary.
By replacing the earth tags and lock nuts of standard SWA type cable gland kits, the EarthNut offers a solid, dependable connection direct to the cable gland. Terminations are then capable of withstanding the highest fault currents, only previously catered for by integral earth glands. Cutting teeth aid installation and a locking grubscrew takes care of securing nut to gland preventing loosening due to excess vibration and ensuring an ultra low resistance connection. Installation time is also significantly reduced.
EarthNuts also enable easy use of more environmentally resilient enclosures such as ABS and GRP with cables that require earthed metallic glands. Each EarthNut is a high quality product, equally valuable anywhere in the electrical industry where simple, cost effective, high integrity protective connections to metal cable glands are required.
Machined in the UK from solid brass, EarthNuts offer a simple, all round solution to cable gland earthing.
The EarthNut is a British invention, and is UK-made. The design is protected internationally by Patent Application, No PCT/GB2005/003246. The products are distributed in the UK through local wholesalers by Cable Connectors Ltd (the Pratley Box people) under the name 'Piranha Earth Nuts' (www.piranhaearthnuts.co.uk).
