Bardic’s Manual Call Point

In line with a new European standard, for the medium to long term future all new installations will have to specify manual call points approved to this new harmonised standard i.e. call points have to conform to EN54-11, which has the status of a British standard. Bardic expects its EN54-11 call point to receive LPCB approval shortly.

Among the requirements of the European standard is that the identification and operation of a call point needs to be as simple as possible. Bardic’s EN 54 call point meets these requirements in the following ways.

A choice is offered of the call point having either a frangible glass element with a protective plastic film lamination or a re-settable plastic element. Both types have unambiguous symbols indicating where the user presses to activate the alarm. When the breakable glass type is operated, the position of the glass with its symbols changes significantly, so aiding identification of the call point. The re-settable element includes a flag inscribed with ‘alarm’ that is dropped down when activated. Speedy identification of activated call points is necessary to reduce the time taken for resetting them.

Test and reset functions are key activated; the same key also releases a tamper proof clip that retains the call point’s front cover. The circuit is encapsulated to provide robust protection against environmental hazards and accidental damage. If more stringent protection is required, then IP67 versions are available.
