18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations Amendment 2 AFDDs Mandated Protection Against Fire Caused by Electrical Equipment AFDDs are now mandatory for socket circuits in certain types of buildings Regulation 421.1.7 Arc fault detection devices (AFDDs) conforming to BS EN 62606 shall be provided for single-phase AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 32A in: • Higher Risk Residential Buildings (HRRB) • Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) • Purpose-built student accommodation • Care homes For all other premises, the use of AFDDs conforming to BS EN 62606 is recommended for single-phase AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets not exceeding 32A. Protection Against Transient Overvoltages One size fits all. No special assembly required. No special consumer unit required.
