BEAMA, ENA, Energy UK and SMMT Response to Government’s Plug-In Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy Industry recommendations on back-office functions and off-peak recharging for national Plug-In Vehicle recharging infrastructure June 2012 1 Executive Summary The Plug-In Vehicle, and more generally the decarbonisation of transport in the UK, will form an important part of the means by which national carbon output is reduced and air quality is improved. In June 2011, the Government published Making the Connection: The Plug-In Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy. This stated the following: Given [the] wide range of different parties that need to be brought together to make this [plug-in vehicle infrastructure] market a success we are asking the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ Electric Vehicle Group, the Energy Retail Association1 and the Energy Networks Association to, by the end of the year:   specify how the back-office functions for vehicle recharging infrastructure will operate; and develop recommendations on the most cost-effective way to ensure facilitating recharging of vehicles occurs at times that are cost effective . To take this work forward the industry bodies BEAMA, ENA, Energy UK and SMMT have come together to share priorities and develop recommendations in respect of the two questions above.
