Royal Philips Electronics"e; (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) in partnership with the London Design House will once again have a prominent position in the capital"e;s celebrated lighting festival ‐ Switched On London. Highlighting that good architectural lighting within the night time urban environment can be achieved balancing both creativity and sustainability, the event runs from February 7th ‐ 14th 2008.
Philips collaboration with the London Design House will continue its story from 2007 focussing on the Tower of London. Depicting the different eras and functions of the building"e;s past both the White Tower and Traitors Gate will be illuminated in an evolving palette of colour washes using a combination of LEDline2 and LEDflood luminaires. The start of the story will see the Traitors Gate bathed in blood red while the White Tower behind is highlighted in a strong cold white to give the iconic structure an eerie ghostly appearance, hinting at the Tower"e;s more sinister past.
The story continues as the lighting gently changes to a warm, welcoming "e;friendly"e; white on the main Tower using Amber, White and Blue LEDs housed in the LEDflood and LEDline2 modules. In dramatic contrast RGB LEDs have been used to create a subtle colour change through a range of hues over the Traitors Gate to reflect the different functions that the Tower performs in a modern and ever changing London.
The Switched On London festival runs from Thursday 7th February to Thursday 14th February at buildings near the Thames from Tower Bridge to London Bridge. The lights will be lit from 6pm to midnight daily. For more information visit:
