Don’t let his notepad and pen fool you, as James’ current career in editorial stemmed from his extensive background in engineering. From laying cables to climbing Kilimanjaro, VoltiBULLETIN Managing Editor James Hunt is as well-rounded as they come.
Now working from his home town of Brighton, England, James is no stranger to the electrical industry. He graduated with an HND in Mechanical Engineering and worked in internal combustion engine research and development for Ricardo Consulting Engineers. His career took a sharp turn when a colleague/friend “got the sack” and decided to move into technical writing for a trade publication. Shortly after, when another editorial position opened up, James quickly followed. He landed an Assistant Editor position at Reed Business Publication’s Engineering Materials and Design magazine and has been writing for the trade press ever since.
Four years into journalism, James was head-hunted to take on the role of Editor for trade magazine Electrical Products. He eventually went on to launch Electrical Wholesaling and Panel Building and now freelances for various publications in various sectors, including Wired In and Voltimum’s VoltiBULLETIN.
Along with being Voltimum’s technical information guru and editing VoltiBULLETIN, James is involved with the Counterfeit Kills website (a platform aimed at combating counterfeit electrical goods), Voltimum’s Q&A of the Day and Voltimum’s 17th Edition VoltiBLOG mini-website.
James was visiting Voltimum UK’s HQ in London when he enjoyed his cuppa. He had a meeting with Voltimum’s web developer about the new Counterfeit Kills website and also worked on April’s VoltiBULLETIN, which focuses on sustainability sustainable homes and intelligent buildings.
“Sustainable homes are extremely important in terms of helping decrease energy consumed and CO2 emission,” said James. “April’s VoltiBULLETIN tells electrical contractors and installers why they need to heed climate change, how it will help their business, and it also illustrates problems they might encounter.”
When James isn’t immersed in his editorial, he’s learning to play violin and scaling rocks. An avid mountain climber, James has conquered giants such as Kilimanjaro, parts of the Alps, the Himalayas and the Andes.
From extreme sports to good sport, James looks forward to leaving Voltimum UK HQ to make it home on time to meet his daughter’s new boyfriend. Jokes James: “I’m going to scare the hell out of him.”
