Sustainability and sustainable homes |
7 April
2008 |
April's 2008 edition of VoltiBULLETIN is about sustainable homes, including
microCHP and heat pump units, and more besides.
This VoltiBULLETIN is also concerned with ‘smart’ homes, where the in-built
‘intelligence’ can help save energy. Included is the so-called ‘smart’
electricity metering, which can enable householders to save yet more energy.
Finally, VoltiBULLETIN looks in brief at the opportunities offered to
switched-on electrical contractors by Assisted Living equipment installed in
homes, care homes, schools etc to help the elderly, infirm or handicapped live
as normal a life as possible. | |

Metal lids of
floor boxes
Floor boxes are often employed in open plan offices and showrooms to permit
flexibility in the utilisation of the available space.
A floor box with a metal lid may inadvertently trap the flexible cord of the
equipment which is plugged in.
Occurrences have been reported where the edge of the metal lid has cut into
the sheath and the insulation of the cable with a risk of electric
shock.
