The presentation of the sixth EDA Learning and Development Achievement Awards took place at the Association’s Annual Dinner at the Hotel Intercontinental, London on 13 March 2008.
The awards recognised the accomplishment of students in two categories of EDA Learning and Development. The presentation was hosted by Chris Palmer, Chairman of EDA’s Learning and Development Working Group, and the learners received their awards from EDA President, Martin Whitby.
Product Knowledge Programme The portfolio of Product Knowledge modules are open to people of any age and provide the means to develop and increase product knowledge in a range of product areas. The awards in the Product Knowledge category were sponsored by MOL, who work on the programme in partnership with the EDA. A faculty of Manchester College of Arts & Technology, MOL are one of the UK's largest providers of flexible learning programmes.
2007 was the best ever year for EDA learners on the programme and the competition in this category was extremely high. Joint second place was awarded to William Cowing of Newey & Eyre in Crawley and Keith Sutherwood of Newey & Eyre in Avonmouth, they both completed 2 modules and received Distinctions in all. The top learner was Andrea Foster of Rexel Senate in Potters Bar who received a Distinction for each of the 3 modules she completed.
Apprenticeship Programme The EDA’s range of Apprenticeships provide on-the-job training which is aimed at 16-24 year olds. The awards in the Apprenticeships category were sponsored by Protocol Skills, the largest provider of vocational training in the country, who run the programmes in partnership with the EDA.
The length of study for an Apprenticeship is 12 months and an Advanced Apprenticeship is 18 months. The Advanced Apprenticeship was presented to Peter-Neil Holmes of Edmundson Electrical’s Kettering branch who completed a Level 3 Customer Service Apprenticeship. The Train to Gain award went to Julie Fairbrother of Hagemeyer in Manchester who completed an NVQ Apprenticeship in Business Administration, and The Foundation Apprenticeship award was presented to Jamie Robson of Rexel Senate in Derby who completed a Level 2 Customer Service Apprenticeship.
