Question: I wonder if you could advise on the following? I am installing a light fitting that has two switch circuits - one for an E27 230W halogen lamp, the second for an R7 500W lamp. Is it possible to dim these particular types of lamps using conventional or electronic dimming gear?
Answer: Yes, it is possible to dim incandescent halogen lamps. Please contact dimming switch manufacturers for further information.
I notice that you are using 230V rated halogen lamps. When operated on 240V supply, they will experience a reduction in lamp life by nearly 50%. You should be using 240V rated lamps. Please see the attachment showing the affect on life by supply voltage.
