| An MR16 dichroic lamp. |

Question: What is the difference in light output between a downlighter housing 2x 7W PL lamps, as compared with a downlighter housing a 12V MR16 50W lamp?
Answer: This is not possible to answer with the information provided. The MR16 12V 50W light out put is given in Candellas and this depends on the beam angle as well. OSRAM makes them in 10, 24, 38 and 60 degree beam angles. On the other hand, the light output of (2X) 7W is given in Lumens. It is not practical to convert Candellas to Lumens.
Please note that human perceptions will play a big part in this. The PL lamps radiate light horizontally and this is much diffused. The MR16 is very directional and also intense.
