| Calculate the VD on cable run to shed... |

Question: I require a 30A supply to a detached shed. The total length from the outbuilding to the consumer unit within the main property is 40m. Of this, 20m will comprise SWA cable installed externally, and the other 20m will be PVC twin & earth cable installed within the main property via roof void.
To calculate the voltage drop (VD) of the total length, would I add the VD calculation of the SWA to the VD calculation of the twin & earth cable? Alternatively, would the permissible VD only apply to each individual cable?
Answer: The voltage drop should be calculated for the entire length of the circuit from the consumer unit to the point of use. If you need to discuss further please contact the Prysmian helpline 023 8029 5027.
