Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This one, regarding space heating and controls - the use of multiple radiators in a room with a zone thermostat, is answered by Dimplex:

A thermostat - but where to put it?

Question: A domestic wet heating system has separate zones for ground and first floor levels via independent programmable thermostats. In a main bedroom (where the first floor thermostat is located at one end), there are two radiators at either ends of the room. Normal practice suggests that radiators in rooms where the thermostat is positioned should not to have TRVs fitted. However, a colleague has recommended that one of the radiators (the furthest from the thermostat) should be fitted with one. What are your views on this?

Answer: Each zone (room or part of a room) should contain one temperature sensor mounted as close to the heater as possible.

As a manufacturer of electric heating products, we would not comment on what is best practice for the installation of a wet heating system. However, if the room is big enough, or there is likely to be a difference in temperature across the room because of solar gain, then an additional sensing point close to the heater in this zone is a sensible addition.
