Question: When designing a circuit for a UPS, is there any more information that is required, or any added 'extra's', that need to be taken into account - other than the kVA rating of the UPS. I understand that the cable size will also depend on cable routing etc.
Answer: Apart from the kVA size, you will also need to know how much back up time is required. The standard design life for these batteries is five years. Sometimes people require 10-year lifespan batteries. This is generally for larger systems from about 10kVA. You will also need to know whether a three-phase or single-phase system is required.
