Question: How do I locate a breaker?

I have to remove some redundant air conditioning units from the exterior of our building. The units are still live at the rotary switch located outside, although they are locked in the 'OFF' position. Unfortunately the units are not marked on of our distribution boards. I have an idea which board they are fed from but I cannot start turning things off as the board has some crucial process equipment on it, which - as you can guess - is not marked on the board.

I currently have a piece of test equipment for single-phase supplies that plugs into a socket and sends a signal down to the board and it is then possible to see which MCB controls that circuit by means of a probe which lights up when it receives the correct signal from the plug. Is there a piece of equipment available that would let me do the same kind of thing for a three-phase supply?

Answer: We are not aware of a cable/fuse locator that is designed for three-phase applications. Typically, fuse / breaker location would be performed one-phase at a time, which the instrument you have is capable of. Fluke manufactures a model '2042' cable locator which comes with a transmitter and receiver. Additional transmitters can be purchased so that if you wanted to place a signal on each of the three-phases, you could. Each transmitter can be assigned a different digital code to aid identification.
