Following its successful appearance at the Interbuild exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC, EAL is pleased to provide an update on the development of its qualifications for the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671:2008).
With the introduction of the new standard fast approaching, details of revised pricing, pre-entry requirements and online and paper-based assessment options have now been confirmed. EAL is also delighted to be working with the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA), the UK’s leading trade association for the electrical installation and building services industries, to help them bring 17th Edition qualifications to their members.
ECA has 2,800 member companies that employ 30,000 people and support over 8,000 apprentices with a collective turnover approaching £5 billion. EAL has worked closely with its Education & Training division since moving into the building services sector and its new portfolio will equip ECA members with the necessary skills for the 17th Edition regulations from January 2008.
ECA Group Chief Executive, David Pollock, is keen to develop their relationship with the awarding body. “EAL has proved consistently responsive and willing to understand the business environment in which ECA members operate. Their flexibility and customer focus sets a model for the industry.”
Alongside full and update training, the partnership between ECA and EAL will generate a self-study assessment-only option designed for UK-registered gold or platinum ECS card holders (issued by the JIB). The bespoke solution is available only to this professional category within the industry and EAL has provided the specialist system required to offer this unique option.
EAL is also working to provide candidates with a paper-based alternative to the online assessment system. In accommodating those with a preference for written forms of assessment, the move will also enable training to be completed at venues that do not hold the necessary IT equipment.
The partnership for the 17th Edition qualifications was jointly unveiled at the Interbuild exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC in October. As the largest building services exhibition in the UK, the five-day event attracted over 1,100 exhibitors and 45,000 buying visitors. EAL attended alongside Voltimum UK, and VoltiTV’s roving reporter, Frankie Snobel, spoke to Business Development Executive, Malcolm Cox, and ECA Training Consultant, Griff Thomas, about the new 17th Edition qualifications.
The training courses and assessments will run nationwide from early 2008 and will also be available to ECA members on an in-house, company-specific basis as required.
