Bromsgrove-based companies, Mr. Electric and Aire Serv have raised over £3,000 for Regain, the only charitable organisation in the UK that is dedicated solely to improving the independence of all British men and women who have experienced paralysis in all four limbs, as a result of a competitive sports or leisure injury.
As part of fundraising activity there was an auction, at the Mr. Electric and Aire Serv annual conference held in Leicester. Prizes included an aerobatic plane flight, which was donated by home improvement chain, B & Q and won by Gill Curran, managing director of Synergy Connections based in Fareham for £650.
Curran said: “When we found out that all the money raised from the Mr. Electric and Aire Serv conference was going to Regain, I was more than happy to pledge some money for such a good cause. It is great to have won and know that all the money raised is going to a worthwhile and important charity.”
Curran decided that the plane flight would make an excellent thank you and incentive to the Synergy Connection’s team, who entered into the spirit and put all their names into a hat before the winner Shaun Weston was picked. Shaun took his flight this week in an ex-military and aerobatic aircraft. He comments ‘that the experience was amazing, although it did leave me feeling a little queasy.’
Clive Houlston, managing director of Mr. Electric and Aire Serv, explains why Regain was chosen as the company’s charity this year, he says, “as a keen follower of sports and a sportsman, I have seen the affect sports injuries can have on people’s lives. The money raised will go towards giving those affected practical, financial, emotional and professional help.”
Regain helps people who are affected by the condition, tetraplegia, which alters the lives of up to 700 people each year, with two people becoming paralysed every day as a result of spinal injury.
