Napit has made a formal application to join the Joint Industry Board.
NAPIT Chief Executive, John Andrews, says “Much has changed in the electrical industry since the JIB was formed in the late 1960’s, especially over the last three years, which has seen the rapid growth of NAPIT registered electrical contractors in the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors.
“In fact, such has been our growth that NAPIT now has more electrical contracting businesses registered than both the ECA and Select combined.
“In our view, if the JIB (Joint Industry Board) is to truly be a representative body for the electrical industry then it should be inclusive of all the major stakeholders within the industry.
“We are in a fairly unique position in that some of our registered members are employers, whilst others are jobbing electricians who survive by subcontracting their skills and labour. So we can see, and have to consider, both points of view - balancing the needs of a business to be profitable with the rights of an employee to be treated fairly and with respect.
“Upholding standards within our industry is NAPIT’s key philosophy, which is why an active involvement and relationship with bodies such as the JIB is so important to all parts of our organisation.”
