To establish the UK as a world-class leader in skills by 2020, as identified in the Leitch review, is without doubt one of the biggest challenges facing employers and education and training. As part of a larger programme of activity, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) has been asked by the government to investigate ways in which employers can contribute more directly to the national qualifications system.

As the first step in this process, employers and manufacturers are being invited to give their views on the benefits of having their in-house training recognised within the national system, and the ways in which this might best be achieved.  In order to be able to inform and influence the outcome of this investigation SummitSkills has arranged two workshop sessions for employers to be held in November in London and Manchester.

It is very important that employers providing in-house training for their staff, including manufacturer’s training, should attend one of these events to give us their views.  A report will be published following the workshops which will be sent to the QCA.  The purpose of these workshops will be to:

  • explain the potential impact of this proposal for employers and employees;
    gather employer perceptions as to the benefits or otherwise of getting their in-house training recognised;
  • gain employers views as to the pros and cons of the proposed approaches to accreditation and quality assurance.

The workshops will be held in London on 6 November, in Manchester on 13 November and each will be for half a day.

To book a place please email your contact details to louise.brinklow@summitskills.org.uk stating which location you prefer to attend.

The London workshop will be held from 9am until 1pm at:

Institution of Civil Engineers
One Great George Street
Westminster
London
SW1P 3AA.

Details of the Manchester venue, together with the workshop agenda, will be sent out by 22nd October to all those who have booked a place.
