In addition, advances in the design of Genie and a streamlining in its manufacturing process have enabled Merlin Gerin to halve the delivery time of conventional switchgear. The new manufacturing process means that components can be made simultaneously on parallel production lines, this cuts delivery times down dramatically. Fast delivery is vital for fast-track projects and for sites where installed switchgear has failed and a replacement is needed rapidly.
Long life allows greater range of applications:
Using vacuum circuit breakers that have a life of 10,000 operations enables GenieEvo to be used on applications that encounter frequent load current switching, such as motor starting. SF6 circuit breakers are usually unsuitable for such applications because of their much lower 2,000 operations lifespan. Circuit breaker ratings from 630A to 1250A are available in both vacuum and SF6 versions.
Virtually maintenance-free operation – a first!
GenieEvo is thought to be the only vacuum MV switchgear on the market to offer virtually maintenance-free operation. Unlike SF6, vacuum circuit breakers need a separate isolator, which in conventional vacuum switchgear, need regular cleaning. The isolators in GenieEvo, however, need no cleaning throughout the product's life because they are sealed in a cast resin enclosure containing controlled air, which is chemically cleaned of moisture and other contaminants that would otherwise degrade the copper contacts.
More stringent safety demands:
GenieEvo is one of the first MV switchgear ranges on the market to meet all the requirements of the Electricity Association's 41-36 Technical Specification that became effective in mid-2001. This has more stringent safety demands than previous editions by requiring all auxiliary components, such as cable boxes and current and voltage transformers, to meet the switchgear's internal arc rating.
Keyless interlocking of the switchgear's doors is another industry first for GenieEvo. Getting rid of the need for a separate key to open the doors eliminates the risk of the key being lost, causing maintenance delays.
GenieEvo also offers all the benefits of the pre-engineered switchgear concept that Genie pioneered. Using a modular design and standard components, Genie significantly cuts product lead times compared to traditional MV switchgear, which must be custom-built for every order.
