Applicants to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme must meet a number of requirements, in particular be able to demonstrate they have the ability to install, inspect, test and certify their work in accordance with BS 7671, and to comply with the relevant Building Regulations.

The Domestic Installer Scheme Qualification (DISQ) is a 5-day programme comprising training and assessment, that helps installers meet the needs of this competent person scheme.

The emphasis of the qualification is on understanding regulations, standards and terminology, and having the ability to identify unsafe electrical situations and perform electrical test procedures.  Knowledge and appreciation of the relevant requirements of other appropriate Building Regulations is also covered during the course.

The course covers the applicable Building Regulations, checking the correct and safe operation of installed electrical components, legislation, standards and terminology, the recording of electrical test results and completion of certification.

Pre-work survey or inspection and installing or rerouting cables is also covered as are safe isolation procedures, special locations and the identification of unsafe electrical situations.

New circuit and earthing and bonding requirements are explained by the excellent course leaders as are lighting installations, electrical test procedures,
maintenance, cable and component selection, supplies and installation and replacement of electrical components.

Successful completion of the course and appropriate assessment will suitably prepare delegates to undergo site inspection under the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme. For entry requirements and course dates and details, telephone 0870 013 0389  or email traininginfo@niceic.com.
