From 1st of June 2007, REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) legislation came into force. It is one of the most complex pieces of legislation in European history.
REACH requires a thorough and comprehensive review of the health, safety and environmental impact of chemicals in everything on the EU market - from shampoo to pens to computers to cars. Consequently, this regulation affects anyone producing, importing or using products in the EU – including companies operating in the UK electrical industry.
REACHReady (www.
reachready.co.uk) invited anyone that wanted their
REACH questions answered to come and see it on its stand in the UK Pavilion at
Chemspec Europe where the organisation was available to help. This, said
REACHReady, was 'a great opportunity to get some free advice'.
REACHReady's Technical Director Jo Lloyd said:"REACH is the most challenging health, safety and environmental legislation to come out of the EU. It is vitally important that all European companies that manufacture, use or import chemicals are ready to comply with these new regulations".
Commenting on the opportunities for businesses Jo Lloyd said:"Investors are realising that companies ready for REACH will have big commercial advantages over their competitors.".
Chemspec Europe (www.chemspeceurope.com), this year held at the Amsterdam RAI, is Europe's only dedicated specialty chemicals trade show - exhibitors and visitors cover the whole spectrum of fine and speciality chemicals.
