Modular fieldbus `hubs` - PSI-REP - What are the arguments for it?

  • Increase in range and speed
  • Modular station architecture
  • Structured installation concepts
  • Interference-free transmission and non-interaction
  • Electrically isolated segments
  • Less wiring - Added functionality with the DIN rail bus

Structured PROFIBUS and RS-485 systems

With the new PSI-REP repeater range from Phoenix Contact, it is now possible to realize structured installation concepts in Profibus, Modbus and numerous RS-485 systems. The active repeater system with its modular construction allows individual branching in stub, line, star and tree structures. The individual modules can be operated as standalone devices or extended to form a hot swap-capable hub.

The advantage for the user is in the short segment lengths and the considerably increased transmission speeds, as well as non-interactive potential segmenting for the entire fieldbus wiring. Each individual port has potential isolation of 1.5 kV.

The integrated bit retiming allows unrestricted cascading of the devices for the extension of networks up to several kilometers.

Interference free transmission by means of bit oversampling and retiming

Through bit oversampling, the repeaters PSI-REP. detect damaged data telegrams and prevent transmission of faults in subsequent segments.

The integrated bit retiming allows almost any cascadable star and tree structures to be constructed, the only limits to which are the maximum permissible signal run time of the respective application.

A modular system concept with PSI-MOS.

Another special technical feature is offered by the installation system by the combined use of FO modules from the PSI-MOS. range. The FO networking with PSI-MOS devices from Phoenix Contact allows you to configure modular hub to suit your individual requirements. And that applies both to the number of channels and the transmission medium. It is thus possible to make an individual choice for every single path of either copper or FO technology for the transmission medium.

The integrated backplane makes for convenient installation. Cross wiring within a station for data and supply is automatic via the system bus foot - that saves wiring and costs.

Installation plus: The modular DIN rail connector system

The DIN rail connectors are snapped onto the DIN rail and pushed together. The INTERFACE modules are simply snapped onto these connectors.

Hot Swapping

The DIN rail connectors supply the modules on the DIN rail with voltage and carry the data between the modules. If a device is ever removed from the DIN rail connector, the connection between the remaining modules remains intact.

Flexible power supply

Matching "Power Packages" from the INTERFACE range can be snapped on at any point to provide the power.

Reliable operation with redundant supply

And of course you can operate more than one power supply unit in parallel. That is the easy way to realize redundant systems.
