At EEIBA’s Annual General Meeting held on 20 June, President, Jim Speirs, reported on a better year for the industry’s charity.
The President announced a small surplus of £25,000, for the year to 31 December 2006, which is a substantial reduction on operational deficits over the last few years.
This improved financial position has resulted from careful housekeeping, improved company and individual support in some areas of industry, more events that have increased fund-raising and the terrific success of the charity’s ‘jewel in the crown’ – powerBall, that last November, raised an incredible £294,000.
If we don’t no one else will
Jim Speirs who has agreed to continue as President for another year said, “This phrase has come to mind often during my time as EEIBA President. Whether you work in the electrical and electronics industry or are retired, if we don’t use our best endeavours to support our industry’s charity, then no one else is going to.”
Important messages
Two simple messages arose from the AGM: EEIBA can only fulfil its charitable objectives, if all of us in the industry step up to the mark and pledge our support; and the funding this well-organised charity requires, can only come from our industries, as the EEIBA does not stand amongst those many good causes which can appeal to the general public.
Appreciation and thanks
The President went on to say, “I am however, pleased to record my appreciation and thanks to those individuals and companies who support their industry’s own, throughout the country. Our network of volunteers in Branches and the fifty or so volunteer welfare visitors, the envy of many other similar benevolent funds, make a real difference. Sponsors, donors and supporters of our many events around Great Britain are valued participants in their industry’s benevolent association.”
