On 1st of June 2007, REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) legislation came into force. It is possibly the most complex piece of legislation in European history.

REACH requires a thorough and comprehensive review of the health, safety and environmental impact of chemicals in everything on the EU market - from shampoo to pens to computers to cars. Consequently, this regulation affects anyone producing, importing or using products in the EU.

To mark the occasion and to help companies work out if they should worry about REACH, REACHReady has added a new tool to its popular REACH Basics range - available now free online.

Commenting on today's milestone REACHReady's Commercial Director Tim Jessel said "With our new REACH Basics tool any company can go on line and find out if they have obligations under this new legislation. REACH represents a massive challenge for industry. However investors realise that companies ready for REACH have great commercial advantages and opportunities."

"Substitution could oblige people to use alternative substances. It's not difficult to see how REACH plus a patented substitute substance may equal a considerable market opportunity."

"To make the most of REACH will require specialist knowledge of the legislation and how it will work. REACHReady, a subsidiary of the Chemical Industries Association, is here to help do just that. Any company that thinks it might be affected by REACH can find out at www.reachready.co.uk/worry_free.php."

More about this tool:

The new tool, 'Should you worry about REACH', uses a number of scenarios and a simple graphical representation to allow people to quickly see if they are likely to be affected and how worried they should be. The direct link to the online tool is: www.reachready.co.uk/worry_free.php

REACHReady is a subsidiary business of the Chemical Industries Association (www.cia.org.uk), set up to help companies deal with the REACH regulation.
