Case Study: Showing off Williams F1 with OSRAM DECOSTAR IRC

Williams is a prestigious name in the F1 circuit, having won the constructors’ championship no fewer than nine times and the drivers’ title seven times. As a leading brand, this British manufacturer naturally wanted to show off its cars in a dramatic way in its newly built museum and conference centre.

Working with Optelma Lighting, they were impressed by the near perfect colour rendering of OSRAM DECOSTAR^Ò low voltage halogen lamps and the impact this would have on their cars. The concerns however were how to generate enough light from the chosen spotlights and provide sufficient spread of light over the cars’ surfaces. It would be highly impractical to add more spotlights after the cars were in place.

As Standard 50W low voltage dichroics would not have offered the amount of light needed, Optelma proposed OSRAM 50W DECOSTAR^Ò IRC lamps for use in their luminaires. 140 x M258IR lamps were chosen, as their high luminous intensity and excellent beam uniformity provided the perfect light coverage over the cars’ surfaces.

The result is an impressive display, in which the lighting enhances the cars’ fine technical details and sculptured angles. The IRC lamps are used in conjunction with the OSRAM HALOTRONIC^Ò Mouse transformer to give maximum lamp life and minimal running costs.
