In line with Directive 98/11/EC and the Energy Consumption Labelling Ordinance, lamps for household applications must have an energy label.
The Energy Label
This label shows which of the seven classes of energy efficiency the household lamp has been assigned to. A stands for "very efficient" and G for "least efficient". Here are some sample classifications:
- Fluorescent and energy-saving lamps: classes A and B.
- Tungsten-halogen lamps: mostly class D.
- Incandescent lamps: mostly classes E and F.
Lamps are assigned to the energy efficiency classes according to their measured luminous flux and wattage. The method used for measuring these values are defined in DIN EN 50285 "Energy efficiency of electric lamps for household use, measuring methods". This standard includes references to the relevant lamp standards. Information on the luminaire packaging in cases in which lamps are included with the luminaire, either with or without its own packaging, there is no requirement for the luminaire to be labelled.
Information on the luminaire packaging
In cases in which lamps are included with the luminaire, either with or without its own packaging, there is no requirement for the luminaire to be labelled.
You will find the Energy Label on the following OSRAM lamps
- General lighting service lamps (incandescent lamps) ≤ 200W
- Other incandescent lamps without reflectors (candle, round, etc.) ≤ 100W
- Compact fluorescent lamps of all types
- Energy saving lamps
- Tubular fluorescent lamps with Ø 16, 26 and 38 mm (T5, T8, T12) ≤ 58W
- Circular or rectangular fluorescent lamps
- Single-ended halogen lamps for mains voltage
- Double-ended halogen floodlight lamps ≤ 300W
Lamps not covered by the Directive: Lamps with luminous flux >6500 lm, power consumption < 4 W, reflector lamps or lamps designed for specific applications (lamps for generating non-visible light, battery powered lamps, and lamps for use in equipment for which generating light is not the main purpose).
