Electrical and mechanical engineers Harry Carr Ltd of Grimsby, have specified Prysmian’s FP200 Gold fire performance cable to power the fire alarm system at a £35 million soft drinks factory in Somerset.

Over 30,000 metres of FP200 Gold cable has been installed in the 500,000 square foot facility. The cable powers the fire alarm system and forms part of the central battery system for the emergency lighting.
The factory is the largest of its kind in Britain, producing over 10 million litres of juices and juice drinks per week and employing 800 members of staff. The new factory is part of a five-year development plan that will see the current site expanded, which will result in optimised performance.
Clive Williams, contract manager at Harry Carr Ltd, is responsible for the cable installation, he said: “FP200 Gold was chosen for its versatility and ease of use, it is a very reliable cable and the level of performance is consistently second to none, which is essential for a project of this scale.”

FP200 Gold is approved to BSEN50200 and BS8434-1 for the “standard” requirements of BS5839-1, the BS6387 Category CWZ requirements of BS5839-8 for voice alarm systems, and the new BSEN50200 PH60 requirement of BS5266-1 for emergency lighting.
