Fluke, the global leader in handheld electronic test and measurement technology, has introduced the Fluke 1630 Earth Ground Clamp, a rugged clamp meter with a wide 35 mm jaw opening that offers time-saving ‘stakeless’ earth ground loop resistance and non-intrusive ground leakage current measurement for electrical contractors, field service, industrial maintenance and utility technicians.

The new Fluke 1630 measures ground resistance from 0.025ohms to 1500ohms and leakage current from 0.2mA to 1000mA. With the stakeless testing method, earth ground stakes are no longer necessary and there is no need to disconnect the earth system.
This can be used for installations such as mobile phone sub-stations, RF transmitters, high voltage pylons and inside buildings. The Fluke 1630 also acts as a true-rms ammeter for current measurement from 0.2A to 30A, enabling one instrument to be used for multiple applications.
The Fluke 1630 Earth Ground Clamp is placed around the earth ground rod or the connecting cable. A known voltage is induced by one half of the clamp and the current is measured by the other half. The tester automatically determines the ground loop resistance at this grounding connection.
The Fluke 1630 features an audible HI/LO alarm function to help users quickly compare the measured value against upper and lower limits, a display-HOLD function, a recording function that allows storage of measured values, and automatic self calibration.
