PHOENIX CONTACT has been a major supplier of connection and interfacing technology to the global rail industry for many years, providing high quality, cost efficient, innovative components and solutions, supported by a first class global service.

This wealth of experience enables PHOENIX CONTACT to understand the rail industry’s unique technical requirements and challenges, ranging for example from the shock and vibration of rolling-stock applications, to protecting signalling from surge voltages caused by lightning or even man-made attack.

Therefore PHOENIX CONTACT offers an extensive range of innovative component products and bespoke tailor-made solutions, designed to meet the latest standards and test regimes, all backed by an array of global and local references.

Innovative solutions for the rail industry include a range of “trusted-wireless” signal converters, which operate within the license-free frequency ranges and are protected from interference by secure frequency hopping technology. An extensive suite of supporting products range from wide and narrow pattern aerials, to complete solar-panel power supply systems to aid remote siting. Their proven design provides substantial time and cost saving opportunities by eliminating the problems of getting cables across areas where digging or using an overhead line is difficult, or may not even be possible.

Cost and time savings are also provided by PHOENIX CONTACT’s DIN-rail mounted CLIPLINE terminal range, which meets the new 3.7KV impulse tests, enabling cabling to be tested for insulation integrity without the end terminations having to be disconnected.

The new CLIPLINE UT terminal range, is rated at 1000V as standard for 2.5mm2 to 35mm2 without the need for additional spacers or circuit separation. The combination of high copper content metal components, ensuring rust proof connections, and performance beyond the latest DIN shock and vibration requirements provides a range ideally suited to the challenges of the rail industry.

The latest DIN standards for shock and vibration requirements for rolling-stock, are also met by the PLC range of slim DIN mounted relays, which has recently been supplemented by a selection whose coil voltage range meets the requirements of use on rolling-stock.

PHOENIX CONTACT is a BS EN ISO9000 accredited, customer driven organisation, which employs 7,500 employees in over 60 countries, offering connection solutions, ranging from connection technology between conductors and printed cir¬cuit boards, to the worlds of automation technology, electrical interface technology, and surge protection.
