Dear User,
The process of creating a Europe-wide classification for fire performance cables is underway with grades ranging from A to F. BASEC warns designers and installers of the need to understand this new classification and specify accordingly.
Also on the subject of fire performance cables, Revisions to Part B of the Building Regulations which come into effect in April in England and Wales, have prompted Prysmian to produce a very useful brochure to help in the selection of cable to meet the requirements of the new laws.
We have two excellent technical articles for you in this issue: one on high-performance PCBs from Phoenix Contact and a piece from the IET on how to obtain an acceptably low value of earth electrode resistance.
In case you have any doubts the costs/benefits of moving from GLS to energy-efficient CFL lamps then read the article from Philips on the subject. There are no arguments with these hard facts and figures.
Also, this month Thorn and Kopex launch products for the healthcare sector where ingress protection is so vitally important; our on-line catalogue grows with the addition of 14 new products from Fluke. Also, a quick and simple method of checking the ongoing accuracy of electrical installation test instruments - the CB Check Box - is launched by Socket & See.
We hope you enjoy this issue! - The Voltimum Team. |
