Frank Bertie has been appointed to the board of the Government-backed TrustMark scheme. Mr Bertie, one of NAPIT's founding directors, was voted on to the board of nine as a trade representative by the TrustMark forum:
Frank Bertie, aged 44, has a strong industry background in electrical testing and inspection. He will bring to the board great expertise and solid industry backing and is looking forward to his new role.
TrustMark was set up last year in a bid to stamp out rogue traders. Consumers are encouraged to use TrustMark approved tradespeople to carry out work on their homes. NAPIT is one of 14 approved scheme operators for TrustMark.
NAPIT was also the first TrustMark scheme operator to apply for extension of scope. As of last month (Dec), NAPIT expanded its TrustMark scheme to include the plumbing, heating and ventilation fields as well as electrical.
All NAPIT members are part of TrustMark, meaning they are checked and monitored and must sign up to a code of practice. Therefore consumers have peace of mind, knowing that if they use a firm registered with NAPIT the work will be of a high quality.
Through the TrustMark scheme, if the firm doesn't automatically provide insurance cover, the customer has the option to buy a warranty. There is also a clear complaints procedure and information will be given to the customer about any building regulations they must meet and provide any necessary certificates.
The board's role includes considering applications from organisations interested in becoming scheme operators. Only approved operators are allowed to award the TrustMark logo to firms.
