As systems such as ICT, electricity and heating become more integrated, proper coordination of the different players in the building market is becoming ever more important. As such, installers are now on-site experts, are becoming systems integrators and can play a more important role. Yet many of the technologies are new or emerging.

So says the European Association of Electrical Contractors (AIE - www.aie-elec.org) says that there are ten major opportunities in the near future for electrical contractors, installers and system integrators across Europe. These are:

  • Smart homes and offices - adapting to lifestyle.
  • Smart ageing - independent living for elderly people.
  • Telemedicine - medical home care
  • Energy management.
  • Photovoltaic systems - catching up?
  • Heat pumps - the revelation of the past decade.
  • Domestic CHP - ancient technology; modern application.
  • Electric heating - making a comeback?
  • Powering the digital economy - extensive circuit monitoring.
  • Renovation for safety and comfort - underestimated risks?
