Prysmian selected to beef up fire alarm system at meat processing plant

Prysmian's fire performance cables have been specified to power the fire alarm system at Scotbeef's new, state of the art, £16 million meat processing plant in Queenslie, Glasgow.
Contractor NG Bailey is currently installing 12,000 metres of Prysmian's market leading FP200 Gold fire performance cable throughout the 120,000 square foot facility, which is due to open later this year.



NG Bailey contracts manager Stuart McMenigall, responsible for site installation for mechanical and electrical projects said: "FP200 Gold is so easy to work with, it has become my preferred choice of cable. Because it is so easy to strip back the cable to prepare it for terminations, we've saved two weeks on the job. Using FP200 Gold as an alternative to MICC saves us between five and ten minutes on each of the 600 terminations throughout the plant."

Project Consultants Buro Happold specified the cable. Electrical consultant Gavin Montgomery said: "Because safety is paramount we specified FP200 Gold as it comfortably meets the requirements of BS5839-1 standards for fire alarm systems and is LPCB and BASEC approved, which is vital when dealing with life safety systems." 

Julie Mould, marketing manager at Prysmian said: "FP200 Gold is a unique fire resistant cable incorporating hard skin Insudite insulation and remains the market leading FP cable. The cable allows for maximum ease of termination with an unmatched combination of rigidity and ease of bending, all features which are designed to help speed the installation on a project of this scale."
